Redstone 4 – Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16353 for PC (Skip Ahead)

RS4 Windows 10 Insider Preview 16353

Almost at the same time as the Insider Preview Build 16281 for PC for Redstone 3 (Fall Creators Update) Microsoft released the Skip Ahead Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16353 for PC to the Windows Insiders who opted in for the Skip Ahead flight:

The flight is currently closed, if you haven’t joined the Skip Ahead flight you need to wait until after the release of the Fall Creators Update that was announced for October 17th in about six weeks from now:

Microsoft created a nice infographic to show you the differences between the RS3 and RS4 flights:

I just installed the build, no issues so far so all good for now …

Quick Update:

Another Windows 10 Insider Preview Build for the Redstone 3 release flight. Again, “Skip Ahead”  aka Redstone 4 is skipped, so this will be another stabilizing build to prepare Redstone 3 for going RTM as the Fall Creators Update in a couple of weeks or maybe even faster.

Here are the details on the official Microsoft Insiders Blog:

Have Fun, probably won’t last that long as with this pace the next build can be expected quickly!

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16275

Apparently there was some need to push another build out today:
https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/08/25/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-16275-pc-build-15245-mobile

Only two days ago in my blogpost I discussed the update 16273 for both Redstone 3 as Redstone 4 where I mentioned that the Redstone 3 (Fall Creators Update) would show us just some stabilizing and bug fix items. And this appears to be right, this release, Build 16275, has just been pushed out to the Fast Ring of the Fall Creators Update and not to the Skip Ahead (Redstone 4) flight.

Also Build 15245 for Mobile was released, but you might wonder what the use of this is where the number of Mobile devices is shrinking each day without the option to buy new devices. They are simply unavailable in stores, even in Microsoft Stores they are no longer available.

Redstone 4 – Windows 10 Insider Preview 16273.1000

RS4 Windows 10 Insider Preview 16273.1000

A little while ago I mentioned there was no jumping on the Redstone 4 (Windows vNext after Windows 10 Fall Creators Update) train anymore if you are not already on that train.

Today there was an update for the ones who -are- riding the RS4 train: Windows 10 Insider Preview 16273.1000 (rs_prerelease).

Notice the tagged “rs_prerelease”, this indicates you are on the Redstone 4 track. The ‘commons’ on Windows 10 Insider Preview will have the tag “rs3_release”, also released today.

No clues to what has been fixed in these releases, it has been about 3 weeks since the last update due to some bugs found so I’ll just assume that it is just more stabilizing Redstone 3 stuff.

Go get it if you are an Insider!

Update: Here are the change notes for this build at the Microsoft Windows Blog https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/08/23/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-16273-pc

Skip ahead to next Windows 10 release no longer possible

SkipAheadClosed

Last week I announced that “Skip ahead to the next Windows release” came available for Windows Insiders at the Windows Insider Program. Well that’s no longer possible.

At the time they already announced that this option would be available for only for the time being and would be closed down after enough participants decided to join in.

One of the reasons is that they still need enough Windows Insiders to participate in the stabilizing process for Redstone 3 aka the Fall Creators Update that we can expect somewhere in September this year and most likely will be versioned as 1709.

So there you have it:

SkipAheadClosedCropped

If you are not in already, nothing is lost … you’ll be just helping to stabilize the Fall Creators Update and when this is released the program will be opened up again for all Windows Insiders to join in the new Redstone 4 development cycle.

Be aware though that, especially in the first builds, it can be a buggy experience. First builds tend to be somewhat unstable.

If that is not your thing, it is advised that you stay on the Fall Creators Update for a while longer and maybe join in at a later time. Chances are better receiving a more stable build getting closer to the next release that, if the cadence continues to go on like this, might be here around 1803 (March 2018). But this is just guessing by looking at the stars Winking smile.

Skip ahead to the next Windows release

Windows Update

It was announced a couple of days ago at the Feedback Hub, but it wasn’t really all that visible. Windows Insiders are now moving into Redstone 4, the successor of the Fall Creators Update.

We are close to getting Redstone 3 aka Fall Creators Update of Windows 10 so this flight (the stream of updates released to Windows Insiders like myself) is currently stabilizing.

If you go to the Settings in Windows 10 you see under Update & Security on the Windows Insider Program tab a new option under What kind of content would you like to receive:

“Skip ahead to the next Windows release”

And the comment that goes with it: “Skip stabilizing our upcoming release and move straight on to our next Windows release”.

There is no option to skip between Slow, Fast or other level:

“Only one level is available for your selected branch”

Switching these options will immediately give you:

Windows Update 1

If you see 16251.0 you are still on release Redstone 3 (Fall Creators Update) but if you are getting 16251.1000 you are on the next path, Redstone 4 … Let’s move on!
